Wednesday, December 1, 2021 4:37 PM
Deedie K. McIntire, 74 (yrs.), of Sonora, TX, passed away November 28, 2021. She was born to W.W. “Mac” McIntire and Beatrice Louise Humphrey McIntire, Sept. 3, 1947, in San Angelo, TX. Her parents owned the three McIntire’s Restaurants in San Angelo during the 1950’s and 60’s.
In 1964, Deedie and William Darrel Riley married. From this union, Deedie and Darrel received the greatest gift of their lives, their son, Richard Dodd “Rick” Riley.
Deedie graduated from Central High in 1965. She worked at GTE/Verizon from 1966 until 1972, when she married Robert G. Bridges, M.D. Together, they raised Deedie’s son Rick, and Robert’s daughters, Cheryl Ann and Diana Lynn Bridges. Deedie and Robert traveled and saw a lot of the world together. They divorced in 1984, but kept in touch until Robert passed away. Nov. 06, 2012.
In 1989, while Christmas shopping, Deedie met a “Cowboy/Carpenter”, Wayne Sawyer, Builder. They moved to Sonora, TX, where in March, 1992, Deedie was hired as a temporary/part-time Deputy Tax Collector for Sutton County. She was made permanent/full time in Nov, 1992; subsequently appointed as Tax Assessor-Collector July, 1999, and then elected to three four year terms, retiring 08/31/2012. Deedie was forever grateful to the voters of Sutton County for the opportunity to serve them.
Deedie, a.k.a. “Mother Nature,” loved animals! During her life, she rescued and nurtured hundreds of “God’s Creatures”! She also loved genealogy and history. She spent eight years researching and documenting her family history, resulting in her book, “Five Early Settlers of Palo Pinto & Parker Counties Texas…’” copyright 1988.
Deedie is survived by her son, Ricard Dodd “Rick” Riley; daughter-in-law Tonia Wright Riley; grandsons, Michael Don Riley and Colt Dillon Riley; great grandchildren, Logan James Riley and Kaylin Grace Riley; companion, Howard Wayne Sawyer; sister, Louise McIntire Jones; brother-in-law Jim B. Jones; and nieces, Lisa Louise Jones and Nan Katherine “Katie” Jones.
Funeral arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX. A Graveside service will be performed by Deedie’s brother-in-law Jim Jones, at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, San Angelo, Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
We would like to say a special thank you to the caregivers at New Haven Memory Care and the Concho Hearts Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Concho Hearts Hospice, an animal rescue organization or other charity of your choice.
