Olga P. Chavez, 91, loving mother of Mercedes Stratis-Floyd, cherished grandmother of Alexandra Marina Floyd and Anthony Scott Stratis. Was born on April 6, 1930, in Del Rio, Texas to Pedro and Mercedes Chavez.

She was the fifth child of thirteen; as Llolanda stated, after she was born she completed the “Dirty Dozen”, and then came Jesus, so they became the “Bakers Dozen”. The six eldest assisted their parents in helping raise the six youngest. This was the beginning of Olga’s care giving and work ethic.
She graduated from Elliott High School in Sonora, Texas. Attended nursing school and graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She embarked upon a journey of caring for patients and family. She retired from Crockett County Hospital in Ozona, Texas.

Olga was a woman with a strong faith in GOD, a devout member of the Catholic Church. She embodied the same love, kindness, compassion and patience that her Lord and Savior demonstrated. She was known for her strength, perseverance and caring attitude for her patients, friends, and family. Upon retirement, she continued using her skills providing care for one of her younger sisters. Olga never waited to be asked, she saw a need and would take it upon herself to provide the best care she could. Additionally, when her eldest sister Raquel died, she demonstrated that motherly concern by convincing her niece Raquel Esther Maldonado to move to Texas and finish her education and acting as a match maker for her that resulted in Esther’s continued long marriage that still thrives. She also shared an incredibly special bond with her niece Marina Caballero, spending summer’s together, trips to the beach and special prayer time.

Olga relocated to Katy, Texas to join her daughter, son-in-law and to live out the rest of her life.

Olga P Chavez is survived by her daughter Mercedes Stratis-Floyd and her grandchildren Alexandra Marina and Anthony Scott of Katy Texas; brother, Jaime Chavez and wife, Andrea, sister Llolanda Fonseca and husband, Gregoria, sister-in-law Elizabeth Chavez all of Sonora, Texas, sister-in-law Alicia Chavez of McAllen, Texas and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Mercedes Chavez; brothers, Jose Chavez, Dagoberto “DJ” Chavez, and Jesus Chavez; sisters, Raquel Cadena, Marina Fernandez, Josefina Chavez, Maria Chavez, Maura Downs, Rebeca Chavez, Maria del Refugio “Cuca” and son-in-law Raymond Scott Floyd.

To my mother, my Sophia Loren with your beautiful smile, you will forever live in our hearts and memories, you leave us with memories of your laughter, sense of humor, brutal honesty, bluntness, but most importantly, your love and compassion for all. I love you Mama, with the purest love of my heart and soul! Thank you for loving me unconditionally but most importantly, I thank God for blessing me with the gift of you. It has truly been an honor and my privilege to call you Mama, and so proud of being your daughter.
