On Monday, October 18, 2021 two new officers took the oath of office.
The regularly scheduled city council meeting was cancelled due to the lack of having a quorum present.

Although cancelled, numerous family and friends from Eagle Pass, San Antonio and surrounding area had already made the trip to Sonora to witness the swearing ins.

First to be sworn in was Officer Hector Reyna III, who joined the PD in August of 2021. He is from Eagle Pass and attended Middle Rio Grande Law Enforcement Academy in August 2020 and graduated in May of 2021.
As child Reyna had a fascination with the law and at one point thought he wanted to be a lawyer. It was not until high school that he knew he wanted to be a police officer.

Officer Gilbert Ramirez joined the agency in October 2021. He is from Kerrville. In October 2020 Ramirez began working as a jailer with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office. He then joined the Alamo Area Council of Governments Law Enforcement Academy in April of 2021 and graduated in September of 2021.

Growing up Ramirez wanted to be a car dealership owner. Plans changed and he found himself wanting to join the academy after watching all the riots on TV and found his inspiration to serve after seeing the numerous officers nationwide walkout due to resistance and negativity they faced from their leaders.

Mayor Juanita Gomez said she is happy and proud of the young men and young lady that are on the police force. “We have an awesome group of officers,” she said.

Interim Chief Art Fuentes says, “All the agencies are on the same team and have the same goal.” He added, “If you take care of your job, your job will take care of you.”

While waiting on a few family members to arrive, Fuentes reported that the police department had been approved for 2 grants. The Cyber Security Grant which will be used to upgrade computers and any server issues that there may be. The last time the computers were updated dates back to 2002.
The second grant is the Jack Randall Criminal Justice grant. This grant will be used for enhancement of the interrogation/ interview room.
