Francisca “Frances” G. Avila, 88, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, in San Jose, California.
Born on March 9, 1937, in Sonora, Texas, Frances was the daughter of Telesforo and Petra Gonzalez. She grew up with a strong sense of faith and family, values that remained central throughout her life.
Frances married Silverio “Sam” N. Avila and together they built a loving home filled with warmth and devotion. She was a dedicated mother to her children: Norma G. Avila; Silverio Avila Jr. and Diane; Rita Waara and Mike; Richard Avila and Karen; and Irene Avila and Tilman.
She was also blessed with nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren plus one on the way, and her fur grandbabies Luna and Nico, who brought her immense joy. Frances is also survived by her sister, Mary Munson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sam Avila, her daughter Lydia A. Torres, her parents Telesforo and Petra Gonzalez, and her brother Telesforo Gonzalez Jr.
A woman of many talents and passions, Frances found joy in reading, listening to music, baking, sewing, and traveling the world. Her love for exploration took her to many places, enriching her life with new experiences and cherished memories.
Faith played a significant role in Frances’s life. She was an active parishioner who attended Bible study regularly and dedicated time to community service through the church. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives within her faith community.
A Rosary will be held on March 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bay Area Mortuary, located at 1701 Little Orchard Street in San Jose, California. A Funeral Mass will follow on March 21, 2025, at 11:30 AM at St. John Vianney Church, located at 4600 Hyland Avenue in San Jose, California.
Frances’s legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace.
