“Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share your master’s happiness.” Matthew 25:23

Nancy Bess Wilson Davis, 82, passed away peacefully at her home in Sonora, Texas surrounded by family and close friends on September 12, 2022. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Susan Burnham officiating.

Nancy was born to Adele Kyle and Duke Wilson in San Angelo, Texas on the 30th of April 1940. As a child, her happiest years were spent following in her father’s footsteps, rounding up horseback, working livestock, hunting deer, and developing her lifelong passion for ranching. Nancy graduated from Sonora High School in 1958; attended Trinity University before transferring to San Angelo College. As a young mother, Nancy raised her children (Louise Adele and Frank Edward) in San Angelo, until they moved to the ranch in Nolan County. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her grandchildren, whom she enjoyed spoiling endlessly, named her “Ninnie”. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, who supported her kids and grandkids in all their endeavors, from rodeo to theatre to golf to stock shows to track meets and everything in between.

Nancy, a steadfast matriarch, started every day with six a.m. phone calls to all her loved ones. She got the news of the day and made sure that everyone else was up and moving, whether you were or not. She had a place in her heart for all things beautiful, which she expressed through the landscaping around her home and ranches. Ninnie loved nothing more than to spend a morning with her daughter, nieces and dear friend, Margarita, planting flowers of every color, shape, and size. She enjoyed preparing meals for family,
afternoon coffee with her sister Mary Adele, back porch visits with family and friends, and touring the ranches admiring the livestock and wildlife. A loaded pellet gun could always be found by her back door, ready to take care of any pesky critters.

A leader of her community, Nancy was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she served as senior warden, on the altar guild, with the Women of St. John’s and Daughters of the King. She participated in the Junior League of San Angelo, Sonora Woman’s Club, various bridge clubs, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers, Ruidoso Jockey Club and Fling Ding Club.

Her loved ones left to honor and cherish her memory are her son Frank Edward Davis and his wife Nora; grandchildren Colyer and Madison Dermody, Sidney and Dallas Payne, Slade Dermody, Bryce and Mack Davis; sister Mary Adele and her husband Jerry Don Balch; nieces Anita Balch Hudson, Anna Balch Johnson and their families.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Adele and Duke Wilson and her beloved daughter, Louise Adele Davis Dermody.

A special thanks to Margarita Solis, Dr. Kristy Edwards and Nancy’s caregivers for their compassion and care.
