Sonora ISD Board of Directors met Monday, July 11, 2022 to adopt and/or renew policies and/or agreements and to discuss updating the lights in the district.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022 a grand opening was held at the Sonora Municipal Airport for the new fueling station

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022 Matt “The Shark Guy” took time to come to the Sutton County Library to talk to kids during the Oceans of Fun Summer Reading Program.

Eight students spent the week at Howard Payne University Band Leadership Camp. Our two drum majors spent the week learning how to conduct, ice breakers and different exercises that they can bring back to the band. Five of our color guard members spent the week learning different techniques that they can use; they learned some dances within their small groups that they performed at the exhibition on Friday.

Sonora City Council met Tuesday evening and discussed a variety of subjects.

On Wednesday, May 25, 2022 Sonora Elementary and Intermediate School students were honored for their accomplishments throughout the year.

The Sonora Independent School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program.

Surrounded by family and friends, the Sonora High School class of 2022 walked the stage Friday night, May 27, 2022.

In its second year of bringing law enforcement partners together to help children, 70 missing children were recovered in a three-week operation centered in west Texas.

Christina Rodriguez has been selected to serve as the Sonora Secondary School Principal. This will be her fifth year with Sonora ISD.

Coach Tammy Fisher is excited to take the seniors to state and said that working with the kids this year was so fun and she could not be prouder of the hard work and dedication they put into their projects this year.

During Monday night’s city council meeting it was reported by City Manager Art Fuentes that local veterinarian Dr Gene Gibbens would be retiring soon. After that news was reported in The Devil’s River News on Thursday, May 19th, Gibbens contacted the DRN disputing the claim. He says he has no intention of retiring anytime soon.
