James E. Gulley, Jr., 66 years old, of Sonora, TX, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 29, 2023 peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Sonora. Interment followed in Sonora Cemetery.
Jim, as he was known, was born on February 14, 1957 in San Angelo, TX to Burnell and James Gulley, Sr. Jim grew up with two sisters, Vickie and Sherry. Jim attended Sonora High School where he excelled on the football field; and most importantly met the love of his life, Rhonda Hooper. The high school sweethearts married June 15, 1976.
After high school, Jim pursued his career at Gulley and Son with contract pumping alongside his father, James Gulley, Sr. Rhonda soon became involved in Gulley and Son as the company flourished in the years to come.
Jim contributed much of his time to ensure the success of Gulley and Son. Nevertheless, his commitment to his business could never transcend his dedication and love for his family and his beloved wife, Rhonda. Jim and Rhonda’s marriage was blessed with 3 children, Caleb, Jillian and Evan.
Jim was a man with a generous heart. He had a deep dedication to his faith and a strong relationship with the Lord. Jim will be remembered as a caring father and loyal husband, committed business owner and a true UT Longhorns fan.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rhonda Gulley, his son Caleb Gulley and wife Brooke, daughter Jillian McGee and husband Travis, son Evan Gulley and wife Katie. He is also survived by his grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly. Jim is additionally survived by his sisters Vickie Childress, and Sherry Sipes along with her husband Mike. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim’s family expresses gratitude to the staff, doctors, and nurses at LMH Hospital, as well as special friends Linda and Virgil Burge.
