It is with profound sadness we announce Pedro (Pete) Gomez at 89 years passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2023, in Sonora Texas.
He was born in Sonora, Texas on November 20th, 1933, to the late Juan and Anita Gomez.
Pete was extremely proud of his service to his Country. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and was assigned to the 10th Infantry Division. He completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas and received orders assigning him to Bamberg, Germany. He received an honorable discharge for his service on July 13, 1967.
After returning home from his enlistment, he met his wife of 64 years Irene Gomez and had 5 children whom they were tremendously proud of. She was the love of his life, and they will continue their love in heaven.
Our family takes pride in knowing grandpa had the tenacity to achieve anything he set his mind to do. He was a fixer of all things and was an encyclopedia of information. Pete took pride and joy in helping the city and community of Sonora, Texas. He enjoyed doing things with his hands, you could always find him anywhere that work needed to be done. Until his last days he was completing jobs on his list of things to do. We will always remember him for all his hard work, his catchy songs he would sing to us and his teachings through his actions.
Pete cherished his Catholic faith and was devoted to his daily rosary and Divine Mercy prayers. He was honored to be a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
