Robert “Bobby” Bartz passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at 4:17a surrounded by his children.
Bobby was born in San Angelo, TX on October 17, 1957 to Albert Bartz, Sr. and Doris Campbell Bartz.
Bobby’s early years were spent in San Angelo, where he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. His family relocated to Sonora, TX in 1963. In 1966, Bobby relocated with his siblings to Abilene, TX before returning to Sonora, TX in 1973. While in high school, Bobby worked for his stepfather, Rayford Hull, at the Sonora Ford Motor Company. Bobby graduated from Sonora High School in 1975. Upon graduation, Bobby began his career in the oilfield industry, where he spent the duration of his career. With hard work and a great deal of intelligence, he earned the respect of his peers in the gas patch. Bobby always had the heart for helping others and many of his “hands” benefited from his wealth of knowledge and generous heart.
Bobby met the love of his life, Janice Weathers-Bartz in 1977 in Sonora while flying kites. They married December 9, 1978 in New Braunfels, TX. Bobby and Janice moved to San Angelo in 1981, where they had two children, Jennifer Bartz and Austin Bartz.
Bobby was a beloved “Grumpy Grandpa” to his grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Little. He attended every major event in their lives and spent numerous hours with them fishing, splashing in the pool and teaching life lessons, from riding and fixing bicycles to always putting family first.
Bobby had a passion for reading and could answer any trivia question correctly. His outgoing, humorous personality always provided comic relief for his friends and family. Bobby had an “open door” for all friends or family that needed a place to stay or a helping hand. Bobby was a dad to all of his children’s friends and would treat them as his own. His love, humor and knowledge were gifts to everyone he came in contact with and he will be greatly missed by so many.
Bobby is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Janice Bartz and his parents, Albert Bartz, Sr and Doris Hull and husband, Rayford Hull. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Lynn Little of Keller, TX and her children, Taylor and Connor Little, and Austin Bartz and his wife, Aubrey Bartz, of San Angelo, TX. His sisters, Brenda Vailliant of Sonora TX, Beth Settle of Granbury, TX, and Becky McAngus of Sonora, TX, in addition to his brothers, Bruce Bartz of Houston, TX and Bogie Bartz of Midland, TX. Bobby also leaves behind many friends, nieces and nephews, and beloved in-laws.
All services will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX. Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023 from 5-7p. Bobby’s funeral will be Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 1p followed by a private burial.
Pallbearers for the services will be Bogie Bartz, Bruce Bartz, Bryan Bartz, Steve Ponsetti, Johnny Butler, and Tom E. Valliant.
