On Sunday, January 1, 2023 members of the community gathered at the Sutton County Courthouse to witness the swearing in of multiple new leadership terms.

Members of the Sutton County Commissioners Court met Monday, December 12, 2022 for their final meeting of the year. This meeting was also the last for Sutton County Judge Rachel Duran and Sutton County Commissioner Precinct 4 Fred Perez.

The Sonora Broncos varsity football team had their 2022 season come to a conclusion on Saturday night in San Angelo. The final score in the Region 1-2A Division 1 playoff game against the now 13-0 Hawley Bearcats was 57-26.

For the third consecutive week, Sonora’s opponent was picked to be the winner. Last week the Farwell Steers were picked as three to six point favorites. Even the Farwell coach stated that his Steers would advance to the next round. After the football game at Big Spring’s Memorial Stadium, they went to the local Whataburger licking their wounds and shaking their heads. All the Bronco offense had to do was score three touchdowns and the aggressive, swarming defense took care of the rest.

On Friday and Saturday, November 11 and 12, 2022 two of our own cowboys and cowgirls were inducted into the All-Cowboy & Arena Championship Hall of Fame. Sherry Altizer Ingham was awarded for her barrel racing career and Olie Smith was recognized for his career in steer wrestling.

On Thursday, November 3, 2022, Sonora ISD school personnel Sandy Wellmann, Brittany Welborn and Michael Kissire proudly accepted Sonora Secondary’s National Blue Ribbon Award.

Mack Altizer of Bad Company rodeo was recently honored at the Legacy of the West Gala as the western industry’s “Trailblazer” for his lifetime vision and hard work in helping to change the sport of rodeo for the better.

The 10th Annual Dry Devil’s River Music Flood was a great time had by all. With over 600 people in attendance, the Sutton County Park was the happening place to be.
